Hola everybody!
So I'm officially a week into my mission. One thing is for sure, the days feel like weeks and the weeks feel like days. It hasn’t been too bad so far. The first day was basically terrible, but the rest have been pretty good. Um, day one I arrived, got all my stuff, they showed me my room and I met my zone. They are awesome by the way. Then they took me to my classroom and I took a few little tests and then I met my comp. His name is Elder Buchanan, he is from Logan. He's pretty cool I guess. We get along really well so that's good. Anyway, after I met him we got right into learning Spanish. In the last week I have only heard my teacher speak in English like twice...it’s crazy. This Elder in my district gave a pretty good analogy about the whole process they use here. He said, "When we get here it's like we are walking in the desert and we come across this huge pit and we are all standing there looking down at it like, "Whoa that's a huge pit!!" And then they come and just shove us all into it! And then we are all trying to figure out how to get out, but it’s so dark we can't see anything and nobody thought to bring a flashlight!!” Haha that's basically what this last week has been like for us ha. He’s a funny guy. He is from Limon Wyoming and I basically laugh at everything he says. Anyway, so like the second day we had interviews with our Branch Presidency; they are super awesome! And that night (which was Thursday I think?) they called me to be the District Leader! Kinda crazy cause I have no idea what I am doing in the first place haha, but it will be good. So basically we just spend like 10 hours a day in class learning how to speak and teach in Spanish. On Friday we had to start teaching an investigator and the lesson had to be 30 min in 100% Spanish, so that was scary…and hard. But me and my comp taught him about the love our Father in Heaven has for us, and how to pray! It was awesome! I’m starting to gain a testimony of el don de lenguas! That means the gift of tongues. We have taught five lessons in Spanish now and after each one I don’t even remember half the things I said. And also somehow I know what the investigators are saying when they talk to me and my comp so that’s pretty awesome! Um, on Tuesday we had a devotional and Elder Neil L. Anderson spoke to us. It was so amazing and it changed my whole perspective on everything. So yeah my district is way cool! We have a ton of fun together! There are 10 of us total, six elders and four hermanas (sisters). Five of us are actually going to the same mission, including my comp so that’s pretty cool. Ummm...there is so much to tell, but I am out of time. I would love to hear from everyone! I'll email next Wednesday! Love you guys! Elder Harman

Hey, we only have a few minutes on the computers today, but they wanted us to let you guys know that I am doing fine and everything is goin pretty good so far. The first day was exhausting. We spent a lot of time in the classroom. We had a workshop the first night where we taught three investigators; it was just in English, but it was still cool. They kinda do a death by fire strategy here at the MTC.
But yeah, we taught three people the first night which was pretty cool and yesterday was just a lot of class. The language learning is pretty hard, but we all pray for the gift of tongues like 100 times a day. Oh yeah, also we have to teach an investigator today, just me and my comp. And it has to be 20-30 min long and all in Spanish, so that is basically terrifying. Anyway, I'll let you know how it all goes on Wednesday; that's our p day so we have about an hour to email and stuff. Love you guys, talk to you soon. Oh yeah, last night I was called as District Leader. Aight I gotta go, tell everyone I love em and we will talk soon. |
