Hola errbody!
Wow...it’s like, so hot here. So this past week the weather has been bien caliente to say the least. Our A/C was non-functioning until Saturday. We literally sweat while doing nothing. It’s nasty. So sorry for not sending a big email last week, things were kinda crazy! So I’ll try and make this one good! Aight so this week was interesting. So our on-date Daniel, turns out, he’s not married to his, well girlfriend, but they live together and have a baby. So we are going to have to have them married first before he can get baptized which wasn't going to be a big deal. Until we found out she is still married to guy who lives in Mexico now...so that complicates things a bit. So now she has to get divorced and send the papers down to him, and hopefully he will be willing to sign them and send them back quickly. Then after that they can get married and he can be baptized. BUT, by law in Washington she has to wait at least 3 months before she can be married again...so yeah, we are going to continue working with them and keeping him excited for baptism. He is super pumped! Last week he gave us all his coffee and tea and cigarettes when we taught the word of wisdom so that was cool. Oh and they have been going through some hard times and don’t know if they want to be married. Daniel wants to be baptized but isn’t sure if he wants to get married. So to try and help them we took our Branch President with us to a lesson with them and talk about some of the things they’ve had trouble with. It was definitely my first time and hopefully the last haha! Anyway, they are super cool! Also, this week we had a couple conferences with Elder Daniel L. Johnson of the Seventy. He did one conference in Wenatchee with all the Spanish missionaries in the whole mission and taught us how to work with Hispanics more effectively. He is American but was raised in the Mormon colonies in Mexico so he knows what he's talking about. Anyway he talked a lot about the promises in that the Book of Mormon has for the descendants of Lehi. And he talked about the way Hispanics think. They don't think logically when it comes to making decisions. And he said that is not a racist comment. They make decisions based off the way they feel. They are people who are very close to the spirit and are really in-tune with their feelings. So he was helping us understand how when we teach these people, we can’t try and explain it to make sense to them cause that’s not going to do anything. We simply have to tell them the doctrine, bear testimony of it, and use the Book of Mormon in teaching, and they will feel that what we are saying is true. They will feel that being baptized is something they should do. But not because it makes sense, simply because it feels right. I think that is so awesome! And such a great example. When the Lord wants us to do something, sometimes it’s not gonna make sense to us, but it’s gonna feel right. And if we trust in the Lord and follow the Spirit in our lives, He will lead us down the path we should go. Then the next day we had normal zone conference but Elder Johnson was there as well. He talked to us a lot about our testimonies I guess you could say. He talked about why we are here on missions, how we know the things we teach are true, and how we can learn to understand the spirit. It was super awesome! He left us with 5 questions to take home and seek answers to, and I want to share those with you and I challenge you to the same thing. Even if you think you know already, please do it again. He told us to ask God the following: 1. Are you really there? Do you exist? 2. Do you really have a body of flesh and bone? 3. Do you know that I exist? That I am here? 4. Am I really your son or daughter? Are you really my father? 5. Do you really love me? Do you really care about me? I know for a fact that God will answer you. Even if you think you already know, ask again. He will tell you. I can promise you that. Well I think that is about it for this week! I will have more next week! Love you all! #GODSARMY #JESUSISMORMON Elder Harman PS - Here are some pics of elder Miles and I. and a random yard full of dandy lions.
